This hike takes you from Europe’s highest parish to a hut at over 3000 meters above sea level. Leave Obergurgl and follow Ramolweg to Ramolhaus. The trail crosses River Gurgler Ache and climbs in switchbacks before leveling out and contouring along the grassy slopes above the valley. The trail leads past dilapidated Küppelehütte and crosses several brooks along the way. Ramolhaus is often within sight – which makes the tour seem longer than it really is. Also within sight are mighty Gurgler Ferner to the south and an awe-inspiring glacier world in front of you. The last part of the trail climbs steeply before reaching Ramolhaus which is perched on a rocky outcrop overlooking the surrounding glaciers. Next to the refuge there is a small chapel where you can spend time in meditation or just recollect your thoughts.
